‘Bucerchiale’ Chianti Rufina Riserva, Selvapiana

Bucerchiale is the name of Selvapiana’s finest vineyard in the small Rufina zone of Chianti. Organically farmed by the Giuntini family since 1827. 100% Sangiovese but more powerful than the Cepparello; still balanced with great complexity and a fine match for the best steak (Bistecca alla Fiorentina…)

‘Carte Noire’ NV, Champagne Jean-Paul Deville

Jean-Paul Deville is situated in Verzy and produces great wines and provides excellent value.  The blend is dominated by Grand Cru Pinot Noir grapes (75%); it is an elegant style but with some richness and depth.  

‘Chiaraluna’ Viognier, Muralia

Muralia is a beautiful organic winery in the Maremma region of Tuscany, owned and run by Stefano Casali, who is an absolute perfectionist when it comes to wine! This is a very elegant Viognier, with clean, pure stone fruit flavours and without the heaviness that sometimes comes with that grape. One of the best expressions of Viognier I've ever tasted (from anywhere!). Absolutely delicious with poached salmon or lobster.

‘Corbizzo’, Muralia

Chiara and Stefano Casali fell in love with this property in the Maremma region of Tuscany in 1997, and turned this love into the adventure of their lives, moving from Milan with the clear idea of making a wine that would simply interpret the gifts of the land. The focus is always on balance, with freshness adding elegance to wines from an area which can be very hot and powerful wines are the norm. This vintage of Corbizzo is a real revelation! Stefano has captured the sunshine through his Syrah grapes but with real elegance and style. Similar in style to top Provence Rose but with a bit more juicy red fruit flavours. Really delicious and certainly my pick of the pinks for this summer. Perfect for the garden; English asparagus, smoked salmon salads, grilled garlic prawns - Yum!

‘Douce Providence’ Muscat St. Jean de Minervois 50cl, Clos de Gravillas

This is a beautiful dessert wine from John & Nicola Bojanowski's organic winery in St.Jean de Minervois, deep in the Languedoc countryside. Made from that grapiest of grapes Muscat, this is floral and fruity with aromas of orange flower and honeysuckle combining with flavours of sweet pink grapefruit and mandarin. The finish has such a refreshing tang that you can drink it on its own as an aperitif, but it would also take kindly to strawberries and fruit pastries.

‘Drink Me’ Tinto, Niepoort

Touriga Franca,Touriga Nacional,Tinata Roriz andTinta & Amarela Niepoort started making table wines (not Port) from Douro vineyards in the early 1990's and have gone on to become one of the region's leading lights, with Dirk Niepoort gaining a reputation as one of the World's bet winemakers. This 'entry level' wine is a firm favourite of ours; the eye-catching label means it always flies off the shelves but customers always return due to the quality of the wine in the bottle! Medium-bodied, smooth and elegant, this is an easy-drinking version of the Douro that never disappoints. A great wine for BBQ's, pork and grilled or roasted vegetables. A versatile all-rounder.

‘La Magendia’ Jurancon Moelleux (37.5cl), Clos Lapeyre

Jean-Bernard Larrieu makes some of the best wines in Jurancon at Clos Lapeyre. This isolated area lies inland in the foothills of the Pyranees and is home to some of the best sweet wines France has to offer (without paying Sauternes prices). Petit Manseng is the main grape for producing these delicious, honeyed wines and it's bright acidity is what makes it so successful; no matter how rich and unctuous the wine, it still feels fresh and mouth-watering on the finish. In case you were wondering, La Magendia means 'the best' in the local Occitane dialect; very fitting, as this is truly stunning. Perfect with fruit desserts (rhubarb or apple crumble...?) and is a star with blue and rind-washed cheeses.

‘Le Merlettaie’ Pecorino, Ciu Ciu

100% Pecorino This organic farm in the Offida region of Le Marche, was established in 1970 and is owned by brothers, Massimiliano and Walter Bartolomei. Pecorino is the grape variety here, named after the fact that the bunches look like sheep's heads (or because sheep like to eat the grapes, depending on who you listen to...). It is a great variety that, in the right hands, can have real personality and quality. This wine sees a little bit of barrel ageing which gives some richness and a hint of vanilla to compliment the fresh orchard fruit flavours. This is great with pork and apple dishes as well as simple grilled fish, or with a nice risotto. It also goes well with sheep's cheese...English Pecorino!

‘Les Montagnes Bleues’, Mas Foulaquier

100% Grenache Noir With its old stone farmhouse built over centuries Mas Foulaquier is situated at the northern edge of the designated Pic Saint Loup ‘cru’. The farm overlooks a large plot of 8 hectares of sloping vines, similar to an enclosed Burgundy parcel. In addition to this lovely setting, the property is part of the exceptional Pic-St-Loup terroir: a pebbly landscape warmed by the southern sun and cooled by the climate of the lower reaches of the Cévennes. The method of viticulture is driven by love for this rugged environment, and respect for this magical and unspoilt landscape. The vines are therefore cultivated and treated with biodynamic preparations applied in accordance with the biodynamic sowing calendar. This wine is a true and vibrant expression of Grenache and the land from which it comes. The wild perfume explodes from the glass and the palate has such beautiful purity of dark fruit flavours. Perfect with grilled or roast meats. Lamb and pork especially.

‘Lo Vielh’ Old Vine Carignan, Clos de Gravillas

Clos de Gravillas is an organic estate based in the tiny hamlet of St Jean de Minervois, deepin the Languedoc countryside. Here, John and Nicole Bojanowski make some of the region's most interesting wines. The Carignan vines that make this wine are from a high gravelly vineyard and are over 100 years old. This gives the wine real character, as if the vines have soaked up the minerals of the earth and the flavours of the surrounding Garrigue. This is a dark, powerful wine that is a perfect match for slow roasted, herby meats. Unique and beautiful, this is Southern French wine at it's best.

‘Manolibera’, Muralia

Muralia is a wonderful little winery in the Maremma region of Tuscany (near Montalcino but nearer the coast). It was set up in 1997 when Stefano and Chiara Casali fell in love with the land and moved down from Milan. They are committed to organic farming and everything here is done by hand. The passion and attention to detail really shines through in the wines; they are pure and vibrant expressions of their beautiful vineyards. Manolibre is an light, unoaked blend of Sangiovese (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) & Merlot (25%), which really sings with bright red fruits and aromatic herbs. If you make good pizza at home, then you need to try this - the perfect wine. Also great with tomato and meat pasta dishes (obviously...)

‘O Rosal’, Terras Gauda

Terras Gauda was the first Galician winery to really make me think that World class wines could be produced here. Their vineyards are located in the subzone of O Rosal on the terraces that rise steeply above the river Miño which divides Spain from Portugal. This wine is a selective blend of the best Albariño grapes in the O Rosal subzone, mixed with the indigenous Loureira and Caiño Blanco, it is greenish-yellow, evoking white flowers and green plums on the nose and filling out on the palate with fresh grape and apple compote flavours as well as peach kernel. Edged with superb acidity and a bristling minerality this reminds me of a cross between really good Riesling and Premier Cru Chablis. The perfect wine for seafood, salads or simple fish dishes.
