Agnulo Innocenti Cabernet Sauvignon
£17.95
Angulo Innocenti epitomizes the small family producer and their story is wonderful. Two European vinegrowers, Pedro Angulo and Angel Innocenti, 19th century immigrants from the Basque country and Tuscany respectively, who moved to Argentina with thousands of other European settlers to plant their vines and carve out a living in the vast, dry plains of Mendoza. Grandchildren Mariano and Maria now run the estate and make pure and balanced wines with a bit of a European, food-friendly edge.
This Cabernet has lovely, rich, pure blackcurrant and blackberry flavours, mingled with some spice from the barrel ageing. A great example of the grape variety and one that over-delivers for the price.
Good with roast lamb or beef and a pretty perfect steak wine.

French born Jean-Edouard de Rochebouët is a man who knows a thing or two about sparkling wine; he helped pioneer 'méthode champenoise' wines from Argentina in the early days of Domaine Chandon in Mendoza. What's not to love about this? Deliciously fruity and finely balanced with superb brioche and shortbread notes on the nose due to its spending 12 months on the lees in bottle, very pale pink in colour with tiny bubbles.
