Newton Johnson are famous for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but this new addition to their range has won them huge plaudits. The Spanish grape Albarino, is taking off all around the World as more and more people fall in love with it. Less intense than Sauvignon but still crisp and fresh, this is a variety you need to try.
This version is very well-made (as you would expect from Gordon Newton Johnson), perhaps slightly fleshier and juicier than it’s Spanish relatives, but still elegant and food-friendly. Delicious.
Perfect with shellfish, BBQ prawns, lobster mayonnaise, grilled fish with olive oil.

Te Whare Ra Sauvignon Blanc
Te Whare Ra (TWR), pronounced Te Faré Rha (House of the Sun), is the oldest little winery & vineyard in Marlborough, being first established in 1979 in the sub-region of Renwick. Since 2003 it has been owned and operated by Anna & Jason Flowerday. She’s an Aussie from South Australia and he’s a Kiwi from Marlborough.
Anna and Jason firmly believe that biodiversity is the key to maintaining a good vineyard. They plant between the vines and plough alternate rows. To combat pests, they use natural methods such as buckwheat, and fertilize the vineyard using their own home-made composts and manure. In the cellar they practice a hands-off approach as they seek to express the nature of their individual vineyards and sites. The TWR wines are truly hand-made. Everything is hand-picked, hand-sorted and the attention to detail is meticulous. Fiano, Caiaffa
Caiaffa works to the principle of synergistic agriculture. They believe that nature is man's greatest collaborator, and that nature maintains balance. Certified organic, they do not use insecticides or pesticides in order to encourage a balanced ecosystem and work at one with nature.
They are especially protective of the insects which live on and around their vines; they work in harmony with them and have established a symbiotic relationship in which both parties benefit. For the bugs make it possible for micro-oxygenation and provide the means for nutrients needed to make passage through the soil. This is reflective in their branding and their packaging.Caiaffa is located in Cerignola, a coastal town in the beautiful Tavoliere delle Puglie, northern Puglia. The Tavoliere area was once completely submerged in sea water, which has influenced a very special climate, in abundance of flora and fauna. The soils here are rich in limestone and the vines benefit from the mild Mediterranean weather. Through these wines, you can truly taste the authentic flavour of the land.
A lively and fresh white wine, with delicate flavours and aromas of ripe citrus fruit, stone fruits and white flowers. Great acidity and well balanced with a lovely long finish.
A great aperitif wine or perfect with salads, asparagus or light fish and shellfish dishes.
Reserve de Gassac Blanc, Mas de Daumas Gassac
This is a cracking organic wine! Made by the Guibert family at the iconic Mas de Daumas Gassac in the Languedoc, this is exceptional value for money. An unoaked, aromatic blend comprising of Viognier, Chardonnay, Terret and Muscat, this is creamy and peachy with a crisp, fresh finish. Perfect with seabass with fennel or other herby fish dishes. Organic.
Monbazillac ‘Jour de Fruit’ 37.5cl, Domaine de l’Ancienne Cure
Monbazillac has a long history (known as early as the 14th century) and is one of the world’s great sweet wines; similar in style to Sauternes but usually offering better value for money. Here, Christian Roche is one of the best winemakers and his attention to detail and organic practices shine through in the wines.
Light and juicy, with the sweetness balanced by good acidity, this is a great introduction to dessert wines; perfect as an all-rounder with a cheese board or with fruit desserts.
Cotes de Gascogne, Duffour Pere & Fils,
This family producer based in central Gascony (South-West France), is considered one of the best in the area. Their wines have a depth of flavour which is often lacking here; their philosophy is firmly quality over quantity! This is a blend of Colombard, Gros Manseng, Ugni Blanc & Sauvignon Blanc (quite a mouthful!); It’s clean, fresh and modern in style, aromatic with a long, dry finish. Very quaffable and great value.
Reserve de Gassac Rose, Mas de Daumas Gassac
This is such a great value wine! A light, fresh crisp organic Rose from one of France's most famous producers - Mas de Daumas Gassac. Based in the hot Languedoc region in the south of France, the Guibert family has fabulous vineyards with a unique, cool microclimate. This is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan.
The wines always have a suggestion of the garrique (wild aromatic herbs that grow abundant around them) and always deliver in terms of flavour and value.
The perfect summer pink for soaking up the sun; organic and under a tenner!
