Chateau Musar 1998
£37.95
The Hoshar family arrived in Lebabnon from France, in the 16th Century and since 1930 have produced one of the most iconic wines in the world.
Seven years in the making, Chateau Musar Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsault from vineyards near the Bekaa Valley villages of Aana and Kefraya on gravelly soils over limestone. Planted from the 1930s onwards, yields are low from these mature bushvines (average age: 40 years): Between 15 to 35hl per hectare.
The cooler 1998 has an elegant Cinsault dominance; the colour is lighter and more delicately perfumed than a typical
vintage. Despite this initial impression, the wine is deceptively powerful with a vibrant acidity and fresh, soft red fruit
flavours and a very long, spicy finish.
Musar Reds always benefit from a few hours in a decanter before serving, at which point they really come alive.
A great wine for mushroom and game dishes.
