‘Cuvee Selection’ NV, Champagne Gaston Chiquet
£34.95
Champagne Gaston Chiquet has been passed down through eight generations since 1746, when Nicolas Chiquet planted his first vines. It was brothers Fernand and Gaston who, in 1919, made the bold decision to keep their grapes and producer their own wine.
Since 2003, this property has been in the very capable hands of brothers Antoine and Nicolas Chiquet. Together with Marion (Antoine’s daughter) they work 23 hectares of vineyards in Dizy, Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Hautvillers. They cultivate Chardonnay (50%), Pinot Meunier (30%) and Pinot Noir (20%). Committed to protecting their land for future generations, they have both the Champagne Sustainable Viticulture and High Environmental Value certification, which they were awarded in 2015.
This is a beautifully balanced ‘Grower Champagne’, with good stone fruit and brioche richness and delicious freshness.
65% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir.

Rochebouet ‘Cave Extreme’ Extra Brut Rose NV
French born Jean-Edouard de Rochebouët is a man who knows a thing or two about sparkling wine; he helped pioneer 'méthode champenoise' wines from Argentina in the early days of Domaine Chandon in Mendoza. What's not to love about this? Deliciously fruity and finely balanced with superb brioche and shortbread notes on the nose due to its spending 12 months on the lees in bottle, very pale pink in colour with tiny bubbles.
