Eclectico Puesta en Cruz Sobre Lias, El Hato y El Garabato
£19.95
Arribes is a region we don't hear much about here in the UK, tucked away on the border with Portugal on the Duero/Douro river, it is often overlooked. However, there are some interesting things happening there...
José Manuel Beneitez and his partner Liliana have spent several years travelling the World and working in vineyards from The Barossa Valley to California. They have now returned to his grandparents land to make first class wines.
Finding an old vineyard, new to them, of just Puesta en Cruz (Rabigato), winemaker, Jose, decided to keep this wine simple. Made in stainless steel and ages on lees for a short period, the wine is bursting with fresh citrus acidity and aromatics. Richness and smoky complexity comes form the lees, and results in a wine of balance and one that’s great with food. This has a lovely savoury nuttiness which goes particularly well with cheese; perfect with rind-washed soft cheeses or a hard sheep's cheese.
