February Mixed Case

£120.70 £99.00

An awesome mixed 6-pack showcasing some the recent additions to our range with a couple of old favourites. All really, really good wines, with a great saving.

– Beaumont Chenin Blanc, Bot River, South Africa – Our most gluggable white. A firm staff favourit

– Domaine Grand Veneur Cotes du Rhone Reserve Blanc, Rhone, France – Roussanne/Viognier blend from this top organic         Chateauneuf producer

– Cullen Sauvignon/Semillon, Western Australia – one of Australia’s leading (organic/biodynamic) wineries. A bordeaux blend amongst the best in the world.

– Frankland Estate Shiraz, Western Australia – A very European style of Shiraz (Syrah); with a bit of bottle age, this is drinking REALLY well.

-Bolgheri Rosso, Michele Satta, Tuscany, Italy – Classic Bolgheri; Sangiovese and Cabernet combine beautifully.

– Cotes du Vivarais (Rhone), Domaine Gallety, Rhone, France – A hidden gem from an obscure corner of the Rhone Valley. Lots going on here.

Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve NV

France, Sparkling Wine, Wine Offers, Gifts & Hampers
£52.00
Charles Heidsieck is one of the great names of Champagne and produces some of the finest of all champagnes. Founded in 1851 by Charles-Camille Heidsieck, the original 'Champagne Charlie', the foundation of its modern fame rests on the unrivalled quality of its wines, which receive countless awards and accolades year after year. The grapes for the Brut Réserve are sourced from 60 different ‘crus’ across the region; fermentation and ageing of the base wines takes place primarily in stainless steel to preserve freshness; it is a blend of 40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier, including at least 40% reserve wines, the average age of which is 10 years; and finally, the Brut Réserve is aged in bottle on its lees for at least three years prior to release. This really is one of the best NV wines coming out of Champagne! Beautiful.

Cartology 2022, Alheit Vineyards

South Africa, White Wine, Wine Offers
£37.95
90% Chenin Blanc/10% Semillon Cartology has become one of South Africa's most iconic wines and tiny amounts are available on allocation...we have a few bottles left! Chris and Suzaan Alheit started their winery in 2011 and due to their focus on old vineyards and attention to detail at every step, they immediately caused quite a stir; they showed what was capable with Cape varieties from old, dry-farmed vineyards. "The goal was clear: we wanted to make wines with a clear Cape identity. We wanted to show that the Cape’s vinous heritage is worth celebrating and protecting, that old vineyards and “ordinary grapes” are in fact wonderful, and that we’re only just scratching the surface of what’s possible in the Cape." - Chris Alheit One of my all time favourite white wines, each vintage is an exciting discovery; the 2019 is a truly beautiful wine. It is a multi-vineyard, multi-regional blend that brings together grapes from unique vineyards across the Western Cape. The nose is complex and intriguing, with aromas of honey, toast and peach mingling to make something really unique. The palate is rich with orchard fruit flavours and has amazingly bright minerally acidity which makes the wine so alive and vibrant. This wine is young and fresh at the moment but will gain even more complexity if aged for a few years. I have older vintages at home and whenever one is opened, it is such a treat; Chenin has a great ability to age magnificently and this is a prime example. A fine accompaniment to dishes that are rich and fatty like roast pork with apples (crackling!) or a simple roast chicken. Also, buttery and herby fish dishes work well.

Ataraxia Pinot Noir

Wine, South Africa
£35.95
Ataraxia was founded by Kevin and Hanli Grant in 2004 near the coastal village of Hermanus in the Hemel-en Arde region. Hemel-en-Aarde is Afrikaans for “heaven and earth” and the claim is justified. The estate sits on a particularly heavenly stretch of land beneath a lofty peak of the Babylon’s Tower mountain range. In addition to its unrelenting beauty, Ataraxia is home to some of the most spectacular terroirs South Africa has to offer. Almost two decades on, they are associated with crafting wines of incredible finesse, balance and depth; wines that proudly hold their own on the international wine stage. This Pinot Noir is my favourite discovery of the year! Perhaps my favourite wine in our range! The wine has the perfect balance of rich fruit and light structure alongside the most gorgeous perfume. A stunning wine, that pairs perfectly with soft, mould-ripened cheeses such as Baron Bigod.

Rioja Reserva 2006, Bodegas Urbina

Wine, Spain
£26.95
A family-run estate that practises organic methods. The bodega is situated in Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, on the north-western edge of Rioja. Four generations of the family have dedicated themselves to the cultivation of their vineyards and the production of wine. Their sole objective, the production of quality wines, has been achieved as the result of careful viticulture using traditional techniques, harvesting by hand and avoiding the use of weed killers and pesticides. The 2006 Reserva Especial contains Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graziano and has more complex, caramelised aromas. The maturity of this wine really sets it apart from other Riojas and is a steal at this price. With the oak and fruit flavours fully integrating, this is deliciously smooth and really quite special. Drink with grilled lamb...

Vina Ilusion Rioja, Plaza Medina

Wine, Spain
£13.95
Ilusion is a project brought to life by Martín Alonso and Gloria Plaza in the Rioja Baja sub-zone of the region. Here, in their chalky, iron laced clay soils at around 700m of altitude, the two organically farm their 5 hectares with the utmost care according to the Fukuoka (author of “One Straw Revolution”) method. While it has been called “do nothing farming” for the lack of additions (neither chemical nor organic fertilizer) and general outlook that healthy cultivation is more about long-term planning and careful observation than it is about attempting to micromanage and control agriculture, Fukuoka farming has become trendy with some very respectable vignerons. Way before this came to pass, and before current luminaries such as Michael Pollan namechecked him, Alonso travelled to Japan nearly 30 years ago to learn from Fukuoka himself. Farming ideology aside, we should mention that this wine is a delicious, gulpable expression of Rioja: full of mixed berries and red fruits, juicy, delightful to drink. A great party red, and a guaranteed crowd pleaser!

Sauvignon de Touraine, Guy Allion, Loire

Wine, France
£13.50
This domaine with its beautiful Touraine-style house made out of tufa produces first class Sauvignon from vines grown on perruche (sandy-clay) soil. The estate is managed according to the Terra Vitis programme, a codified system which posits not only respect for the environment but knowledge of the land, parcel by parcel. This sensitivity to the environment means that natural rather than chemical solutions can be pursued in the vineyard. The grapes are picked at maximum ripeness and immediately transported to the winery to prevent oxidation. This Sauvignon de Touraine, which in previousyears has garnered high praise from the Guide Hachette, has lifted aromas of elderflower cordial, Victoria plums and hints of grass. The palate is filled with gooseberry fool infused with elderflower and hints of summer fruit. A great budget alternative to Sancerre & Pouilly-Fume; perfect with light fish and salad dishes.
