Muralia is a wonderful little winery in the Maremma region of Tuscany (near Montalcino but nearer the coast). It was set up in 1997 when Stefano and Chiara Casali fell in love with the land and moved down from Milan. They are committed to organic farming and everything here is done by hand. The passion and attention to detail really shines through in the wines; they are pure and vibrant expressions of their beautiful vineyards.
Manolibre is an light, unoaked blend of Sangiovese (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) & Merlot (25%), which really sings with bright red fruits and aromatic herbs.
If you make good pizza at home, then you need to try this – the perfect wine. Also great with tomato and meat pasta dishes (obviously…)

Il Civettaio is a beautful farm in the rolling hills of the Maremma region (coastal Tuscany). Everything here is done organically, and by hand; the owner/winemaker Gregorio is truly passionate about his farm and produces wines that really encapsulate the vivid, wild and beautiful landscape of the Maremma. This 100% Sangiovese is full-bodied, like a wilder cousin of the posh folk up in Chianti; It also has some of the savoury characteristics from nearby Montalcino but without the price accompany it. A wine of real character and the perfect wine for pasta with meat sauce (wild boar if you have any lying around, otherwise 'British Bolognese' works fine..).

One of Abruzzo’s top producers, Cataldi Madonna makes wines with great balance; the grapes and vineyards are allowed to express themselves without layers of oak. This Montepulciano is refreshingly medium-bodied, deliciously palatable and very moreish. It will complement your meal rather than dominate it – a quality I always look for in great wine. Great with charcuterie, herby lamb, meaty pasta dishes and hard sheep cheeses such as Spenwood.

An unoaked, aromatic blend comprising of Viognier, Chardonnay, Terret and Muscat, this is creamy and peachy with a crisp, fresh finish. Perfect with seabass with fennel or other herby fish dishes. Organic.

This Macabeo (known as Viura further north in Spain and Macabeu in France) is a lovely light, fresh wine with good depth of citrus flavours. Based in the hot Languedoc region in the south of France, the Guibert family has fabulous vineyards with a unique, cool microclimate. This is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan. The wines always have a suggestion of the garrique (wild aromatic herbs that grow abundant around them) and always deliver in terms of flavour and value. The perfect summer pink for soaking up the sun; organic and under a tenner!
