This Mother’s Day we have carefully put together a beautiful selection of British Artisan Cheese with a gorgeous English Sparkling wine.

What’s in the box, 1 bottle of English sparkling, method traditional wine, plus 3 circa 200g wedges of handmade British Artisan raw milk cheese and the perfect condiment from Rosebud Preserves, a smoked apple butter.

The Wine

Harrow & Hope English Sparkling Wine is one of the closest vineyards to No2 Pound Street. We have been ambassadors of this sensational fizz since Harrow & Hope opened in 2010.

The selection of this fizz is based on its innate precision and balance. The Brut Reserve No8 possesses autolytic, toasty notes that complement the characteristics derived from the cheese rind, while its fresh acidity provides an ideal contrast to the creaminess of the cheese. Additionally, the citrus fruit and subtle orange blossom floral notes harmonize with the texture and zesty flavours of each cheese, enhancing both the wine and the cheese experience.

Lanark Blue”, Errington Cheese, Lanark, Scotland

Milk, raw ewes milk, natural rennet

Taste: a complexed rich creamy blue with bolts of herbaceous blue and a mouthfeel that coats your entire mouth, the sheepy flavour is driven with herb and grassy notes.

 

“Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire”, Goosnargh, Lancashire, England

Cheesemaker, Graham Kirkham

Milk, raw cows milk, natural rennet

Taste: a divine and much-loved cheese, it has a paste that is rich and buttery with fresh citrus and yoghurty notes, the rind offers a microflora of button mushrooms and wet pavement. This is a crowd-pleaser, try with the apple butter!

 

“Allerdale”, Carlisle, Cumbria, England

Cheesemaker, Carolyn Fairbairn

Milk, raw goats milk, natural rennet

Taste: this is a special cheese and the last to be made, as the cheesemaker, Carolyn Fairbairn hangs up her wellies after 40 years. The cheese is made from a single herd of local goat’s milk. It is firm, almondy and full of character. Notably it won Super Gold at The World Cheese Awards, it will be missed. Carolyn is a loving mum and grandma. She is now spending most of her time in her incredible Cumbrian garden, which is bursting with natural life.

The condiment

“Smoked Apple Butter” Rosebud Preserves, Ripon, North Yorkshire, England

Taste: sweet, smoky and piquant with Bramley apples, cider vinegar, Madagascan vanilla and whisky. This will be perfect with all of our Mother’s Day Selection cheese.
