Monbazillac 'Jour de Fruit' 37.5cl, Domaine de l'Ancienne Cure £11.00

GF Rosemary & Seasalt Crackers 145g £3.50

Noble Riesling 37.5cl, Framingham

£18.95

Framingham are Riesling specialists and this is a beautiful example in the Beerenauslese style. Light and beautifully fragrant, with rich lime and honey flavours and a long, elegant finish. The purity they get in their wines is astonishing and goes some way to explain why they have been named Winery of the Year for the last two years (The Real Review – New Zealand’s top wine publication). This will age spectacularly if you can be bothered to keep it…it’s so delicious right now.
Lovely on it’s own, or perfect with fruit desserts or rind-washed and blue cheeses.

St. Chinian ‘La Laouzil’, Thierry Navarre

France, Red Wine
£17.95
Carignan/Grenache/SyrahThierry Navarre has a dozen hectares of vines planted on dark brown schist terraces around Roquebrun. The achingly beautiful countryside is an amphitheatre of small mountains clad in a sea of green, a forest of small trees and bushes and the familiar clumps of fragrant rosemary and thyme which captures the scented spirit of the high Languedoc. The culture in the vines revolves around the respect for the soil, the cycles, the seasons. No chemical products are used, simply composting, natural preparation, plant infusions and working the soil. The harvest is manual and carried out by a small team. This wine is full of  red fruits, liquorice tones and plenty of herbs and spice, yet is unforced, supple and fresh.A proper southern French wine to accompany roast lamb or great with some good sausages or a hearty stew.

Monbazillac ‘Jour de Fruit’ 37.5cl, Domaine de l’Ancienne Cure

France, Dessert Wine & Fortified Wine
£11.00
Monbazillac has a long history (known as early as the 14th century) and is one of the world’s great sweet wines; similar in style to Sauternes but usually offering better value for money. Here, Christian Roche is one of the best winemakers and his attention to detail and organic practices shine through in the wines. Light and juicy, with the sweetness balanced by good acidity, this is a great introduction to dessert wines; perfect as an all-rounder with a cheese board or with fruit desserts.

Botanica Pinot Noir, Botanica Wines

South Africa, Red Wine
£24.95
Botanica Wines was founded in 2009 by owner and self-taught winemaker Ginny Povall, an intrepid American who fell in love with the beautiful Cape winelands She purchased Protea Heights Farm in Stellenbosch’s Devon Valley and relocated to the southern tip of Africa. Established in the late 1940s, Protea Heights was the first farm in South Africa to cultivate indigenous protea flowers commercially. Inspired by this horticultural history, it was only natural that Ginny would choose to develop her wine brands and labels with a botanical flair. It was a real joy when Ginny visited us last year, to share her wines with us and our customers at the shop; her warmth and humour really come through in her winemaking, giving them real personality. This small production Pinot Noir is considered one of South Africa’s best; lovely perfume and that perfect balance between fruitiness and elegance.

‘Segna de Cor’, Domaine le Roc des Anges

France, Red Wine
£19.95
Deep in the Roussillon countryside, close to the Spanish border, Marjorie Gallet makes some truly wonderful wines. The Vineyards have very poor crumbly schist soils which encourage the very old vines to form deep root systems. All the work here is done organically and by hand and the result of this care and attention to detail is plain to see here. Segna de Cor (blood of the Earth) is a blend of Grenache, Carignan & Syrah which really expresses the land it comes from; you can imagine being in the wild, rocky vineyards, breathing in the aromas of wild herbs and then imagine a spit roast lamb with rosemary and thyme. Meaty, rich and delicious. Proper wine!

Highmoor whole cheese

Cheese, Soft Cheese, Cow's Milk, Organic Cheese
£9.95

Highmoor is a semi-soft, washed rind cheese with brothy and bacony notes from the rind made at the Nettlebed Creamery near Henley by Rose Grimmond. Rose's family are dairy farmers and the family farm, located 1 mile down the road, provides all the beautiful organic cows' milk used to make the Nettledbed cheeses. Shape, taste and texture all make Highmoor an interesting addition to any cheese board and given the closeness of the cow to creamery to No2 this is also a great cheese to eat to reduce your food miles and support two local businesses.

Barbeito Malvasia Reserva Madeira 50cl

Portugal, Dessert Wine & Fortified Wine
£15.95
One of the smallest of all Madeira producers, and only founded in 1946 by Ricardo's grandfather, and yet with an extraordinary reputation. Ricardo Diogo de Freitas took over the winemaking at the family firm in 1993, and hasn't looked back. He possesses energy in spades - eRobertParker calls him the Island's "Gamechanger" and its easy to see why, but risks overlooking his commitment to tradition, or at least the reinvention of it.Certainly a sweet wine, but with great balancing acidity. If serving as a dessert wine, partners very well with dishes which contain caramel, dried fruits, toffee and other similar flavours. Also a great wine for cheese, especially strong hard cheeses (Old Winchester, Vintage Lincolnshire Poacher etc)

Southend Chardonnay, Newton Johnson

South Africa, White Wine
£19.95
This family farm was founded in the mid-1990s by Cape Wine Master, Dave Johnson and his wife, Felicity (Née Newton) and within the past twenty years has built a reputation for producing some of the Cape’s best Pinot Noir. Dave’s CWM thesis was on the variety. Right from the outset, Dave and Felicity’s offspring were involved and today it is very much Gordon, partnered by his wife, Nadia, who are responsible for the winemaking, with brother Bevan looking after the commercial side.Southend is a single vineyard that is owned and farmed by Newton Johnson's neighbours, the Pringle family. It is a notably cooler slope, a stone’s throw across the river from NJ, with less sunshine and consequently slower ripening. It produces wines with sparkling clarity, high-toned fruit flavours, compact structure, and vibrant acidity. They preserve these features by fermenting in larger format casks that often ferment slowly in to the winter. The oak is barely noticeable here, the wine is just fresh and juicy; such an elegant style of Chardonnay by one of the New World's best Chardonnay producers. If you know people who are adamant that they do not like Chardonnay, get them to taste this! A great all-rounder, suiting simple fish and shellfish dishes as well as salads and grilled vegetables.
