It could be said that Rui is the torch-bearer for the ancient, highland wine regions such as transitional Douro and Beira Interior. He has renovated old properties which he believes show huge potential in showcasing authenticity of terroir and grape variety.
A driven and focussed winemaker of this bunch, Rui is a champion for the extremes of the Douro Superior and the higher altitudes of the Beira Interior, his homeland. His wines have purity and definition and energy.
A wonderfully authentic representation of traditional, high-altitude field-blend vineyards. Organic production with minimal additions and no filtration.
Naturally fermented with wild yeast and aged in concrete, with a hands-off approach. No temperature control and a light maceration by hand have brought out wonderful bramble fruit and rustic beauty.
This wine has a lovely freshness and perfume; with air, the wine develops layers of richness and complexity.
A great match for roast pork.
