‘Soil’ Corte Malbec, Aniello

A beautifully pure expression of Malbec from Patagonia, southern Argentina. The vineyards of Patagonia are very different to those further north, the influence of the Andes is much reduced, the altitude is lower and the area is much greener (a huge river running through the vineyard!). Located in the upper Rio Negro Valley, this winery has been in opreration since 1927 but in recent years the Aniello team have really improved things, both in the vineyards and in the winery.
This is one of my favourite Malbecs in our range simply because of it’s balance. It isn’t huge, it isn’t trying to blow your head off with alcohol and oak and it has that key ingredient of ‘drinkability’.
This makes it a really good food wine, one that compliments food, rather than dominating it. Very satisfying with a big steak (obviously), roast beef and lamb, grilled lamb, sausages, ribs, burgers….
