Volnay 2017, Domaine Michel Lafarge
£46.00
This Domaine is one of the legendary estates of the Cote de Beaune. Michel died earlier this year but his son Frederic has been running the estate with him for many years now. They make very traditional wines with no new oak to overpower the purity of the fruit coming from their organic (Biodynamic) vineyards.
Volnay is what Lafarge is best known for and this Village wine has everything it should have; beautiful perfume, juicy red and black cherry flavours and a long, pure finish. Delicious now but will improve for another five years or so..
Perfect with lamb and redcurrant sauce, or venison with blackberries. Brilliant with soft cheeses…a bottle of this and a big slice of ripe Baron Bigod is pure heaven.
