Fontodi Chianti Classico Olive Oil

£29.95
Fontodi olive oil is made from Corregiolo and Frantoio olive groves. The olive trees grow beside Fontodi’s vines in the Conca d’Oro estate. With aromas of artichoke leaf and an elegant peppery flavour, this has a fragrant, lingering finish. The oil is deep green in colour with a fresh aroma of olives, artichokes and aromatic herbs. On the palate it already has a good balance between bitter and spicy notes in the finish while maintaining a great freshness.Olive Varieties: 70% Corregiolo , 20% Moraiolo, 10% LeccinoVintage: 2022

Bodega Atamisque is one of Argentina's finest wineries, making wines of wonderful poise and balance. This Malbec, whilst full-bodied and impressive, is not just a typical Malbec fruitbomb; there is great depth of flavour here with layers of plum, blackberry and fig notes.A wine that's sure to impress friends and certainly fits the bill if you're looking for a great steak-wine!

‘Misco Riserva’ Verdicchio, Tenuta Tavignano

£29.95

A family estate acquired in 1975 by Stefano Aymerich and wife Beatrice Lucangeli. Tavignano consists of 30 hectares of vineyards located in a small town called Cingoli, in the heart of the Marche region. The denominations here are Verdicchio del Castelli di Jesi and Rosso Piceno. Cingoli has a perfect Verdicchio growing climate with good sun exposure from the South-East and ventilation from the cooling Northerly winds. Verdicchio is their focus and the majority of their production but they also grow small portions of Montepulciano and Sangiovese which are used in the production of their Rosso Piceno.

The estate has now been passed down to niece Ondine de la Feld, who like her Uncle and Aunt continues with the passion to produce quality Verdicchio in this region. Although for many years Stefano and Beatrice ran the estate with a conscious effort to minimise their environmental impact by using environmentally friendly vineyard techniques and management, one of Ondine’s first decisions when she took charge was to farm all their vineyards organically. From the 2019 vintage they are officially certified organic.

In 2015 Tavignano began the conversion process to organic agriculture, so although not certified, their vineyards are farmed organically. The Verdicchio grapes are hand harvested, and after a soft pressing of the grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel. The wine spends 12 months on the lees in tank, after which it spends a further 18 month period of refinement in bottle.
The Misco Riserva is one of my favourite Italian whites; it really is pure class. Elegant and classy with a real purity to it. No oak but great depth and richness. Ripe fruit and floral aromas with hints of sweet almond.  A perfect match for seafood dishes such as scallops, langoustine or lobster! Also works well with hard cheeses and cured meats. A real treat and worth splashing out on.

Santenay ‘En Bievau’, Domaine Bart

£29.95
Pierre Bart is the sixth generation at Domaine Bart. Since 2009 he has run the domaine and its 22 hectares of vines together with his mother and his uncle. There is a strong focus on Marsannay, coupled with a few parcels in Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny and Santenay. Pierre’s grandmother was from the same family as Domaine Bruno Clair and inherited part of the vines when it was divided up. This is where the Bonnes Mares and Chambertin Clos de Beze parcels originated from. When Pierre’s uncle arrived at the domain, he then increased the size of the domain, mainly in Marsannay. He chose to improve quality, both in terms of equipment and in terms of winemaking. This Pinot Noir from a parcel in Santenay, is great value when compared to nearby village wines (Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey St Denis etc). Proper Red Burgundy that goes beautifully with a ripe Brie-style cheese such as Baron Bigod.

St Aubin 1er Cru Rouge, Patrick Miolane

£29.95

The Miolane estate is an ancient family-run business, which has been handed down through the generations. Patrick Miolane took control in 1983, and now works with his daughter Barbara, who joined the team in 2005.  The estate consists of nine hectares of vineyards in St. Aubin, but also in neighbouring, Puligny and Chassagne-Montrachet. Patrick and Barbara Miolane work the whole of the estate on lutte raisonnée principles, with the aim of conserving the environment and reducing chemical treatments to a minimum. St. Aubin is best known as a white wine appellation, but there is a small amount of Pinot Noir produced, and from a great producer such as this, the wines can be fantastic and relatively inexpensive compared to wines from more famous red-wine villages in the Cotes de Nuits. Good Red Burgundy under £30 is getting harder and harder to find, so I was very pleased to come across this gem.

A supple, juicy Pinot that works well with rich fish (salmon) dishes, as well as lighter meat dishes.

Chateau Grand Pey Lescours, St. Emilion Grand Cru

£29.95
Acquired in 1924 by the Escure family, the Château Grand-Pey-Lescours is located at the foot of the slopes of Saint-Emilion itself. They also own the renowned Chateau Bellegrave in Pomerol. The vineyards are planted with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon – on gravelly and sandy soils and cover nearly 26 hectares.A classic example of St.Emilion; medium-bodied, wood-scented with notes of plum and the perfect accompaniment to roast lamb!

Puro Corte d’Oro, Ojo de Vino

£29.95
Those of us of a certain age may recall the band Yello, one of whose members was the Swiss musician and conceptual artist Dieter Meier, the very same Dieter Meier who’s somewhat bonkers at times creativity included some years ago establishing 100% organic wine production in Agrelo, in the heart of Mendoza’s original wine lands. This wine shows the potential of Argentina to produce world class blends; it has a wonderful purity of fruit and effortless balance. This is a real joy to drink!Perfect wine for roast lamb.

Chablis 1er Cru ‘Montmain’, Gerard Tremblay

£29.95
Gerard Tremblay is one of Chablis' most admired winemakers and this 1er Cru shows just why. Much richer than his (already delicious) village level wine, this has real depth and complexity and the finish is much longer. Gerard's wines go into some of the World's top restaurants, and you can see why when you taste this; there is nothing showy or modern (oaky) here, just pure elegance and class. Perfect for shellfish dishes (I seem to remember first having one of Gerard's 1er Cru wines with Langoustines in a creamy sauce at La Gavroche mmmm) as well as making simple grilled fish into a special occasion.
