This is a great value certified organic wine from the Castano family in South East Spain. This Macabeo (known as Viura further north in Spain and Macabeu in France) is a lovely light, fresh wine with good depth of citrus flavours. ‘Bucerchiale’ Chianti Rufina Riserva, Selvapiana
£39.95
Bucerchiale is the name of Selvapiana’s finest vineyard in the small Rufina zone of Chianti. Organically farmed by the Giuntini family since 1827. 100% Sangiovese but more powerful than the Cepparello; still balanced with great complexity and a fine match for the best steak (Bistecca alla Fiorentina…)
Hilltop Shiraz, Clonakilla
£31.00
Clonakilla are one of Australia’s most iconic Shiraz producers. Their flagship Shiraz/Viognier is amongst the countries best (available on request), however, this wine gives you a real insight into the genius of winemaker Tim Kirk at a fraction of the price. In fact, for drinking now, this wine is more approachable and rewarding than its big brother. Not as big and jammy as Barossa Shiraz, this has a slightly more Rhône-y edge to it, making it much more food friendly in my book. Still juicy and full of delicious dark, spicy fruit but with balance and restraint.
Rioja Reserva 2006, Bodegas Urbina
£29.95
A family-run estate that practises organic methods.
The bodega is situated in Cuzcurrita de RÃo Tirón, on the north-western edge of Rioja.
Four generations of the family have dedicated themselves to the cultivation of their vineyards and the production of wine.
Their sole objective, the production of quality wines, has been achieved as the result of careful viticulture using traditional techniques, harvesting by hand and avoiding the use of weed killers and pesticides.
The 2006 Reserva Especial contains Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graziano and has more complex, caramelised
aromas. The maturity of this wine really sets it apart from other Riojas and is a steal at this price. With the oak and fruit flavours fully integrating, this is deliciously smooth and really quite special.

Botanica Pinot Noir, Botanica Wines
£25.95
Botanica Wines was founded in 2009 by owner and self-taught winemaker Ginny Povall, an intrepid American who fell in love with the beautiful Cape winelands She purchased Protea Heights Farm in Stellenbosch’s Devon Valley and relocated to the southern tip of Africa. Established in the late 1940s, Protea Heights was the first farm in South Africa to cultivate indigenous protea flowers commercially. Inspired by this horticultural history, it was only natural that Ginny would choose to develop her wine brands and labels with a botanical flair.
It was a real joy when Ginny visited us last year, to share her wines with us and our customers at the shop; her warmth and humour really come through in her winemaking, giving them real personality.
This small production Pinot Noir is considered one of South Africa’s best; lovely perfume and that perfect balance between fruitiness and elegance.
‘El Candado’ Pedro Ximenez Sherry, Valdespino
£16.95
Valdespino is one of the oldest bodegas in Jerez, with a history of Sherry production going back six centuries. Back in 1264, Alfonso Valdespino was one of 24 knights who fought against the Arabs for the city of Jerez with King Alfonso X. As a reward for his efforts he was given land that formed the basis of the bodega. Today Valdespino belongs to the Estevez family, who purchased the bodega in 1999.
This delicious Pedro Ximenez has a liquid Christmas cake character, great depth and a lovely flick of acidity on the finish which serves to emphasise the unctuous sweetness and flavours of dried fig and raisins.
Great poured over vanilla ice cream, with mince pies, hard or blue cheese, or just on it's own after a meal
Raza, Quinta da Raza, Vinho Verde
£13.95
This Vinho Verde (northern Portugal), has always been one of our most popular wines.
Quinta da Raza is a fifth generation family winery that makes some of the most expressive wines in the region.
This wine is a blend of Arinto, Azal & Trajadura and is probably the most refreshing wine on our list. The wine is bottled young and retains a little spritz which when drunk cold on a hot day really hits the spot!
Perfect summer wine for the garden or picnics (11.5% abv) and great with salads and grilled shellfish. You will need more than one bottle of this...
Hafod 250g
£9.50
Hafod  – Made by the Holden Family in Wales
The recipe for the cheese originated locally, from the late Dougal Campbell, a close friend of Patrick’s. Dougal learned to make cheese in the Swiss Alps before moving to West Wales in the early 1980s. Here he started making a cheese called T’yn Grug using milk from both his own herd and ours. Whilst doing so, Dougal trained a number of cheesemakers, including Simon Jones of Lincolnshire Poacher.

Cropwell Bishop Organic Stilton is the 'king' of blue cheese and surprisingly Cropwell Bishop is still the only Stilton maker to produce a certified organic Stilton. Like all Cropwell Bishop Stiltons their organic Stilton is matured for 12 weeks. Delicious at Christmas, but in our view a stunning Stilton for any time of the year.
Enjoy with a delicious port, see recommendations below.
