Signature Malbec, Susana Balbo
£27.95
Susana Balbo’s career in wine began in 1981 when she graduated with a degree in oenology from Don Bosco University, effectively becoming the first female winemaker in Argentina. She made her first wine – a Torrontés from Salta – in 1983 and since then hasn’t stopped! She began work on her own Dominio del Plata winery in Luján de Cuyo in 1999 and released the first vintage in 2002.
Today Susana is renowned throughout the world as an exceptional talent, not only in pure wine-making terms but as a global ambassador for Argentina. In 2014 she was elected to serve a third term as President of Wines of Argentina and in May 2015 she was named Woman of the Year by The Drinks Business.
The Signature Malbec is perhaps the epitome of the grape, it sums up everything great about Malbec and is sure to impress. Not just power, there is real complexity here. The finish goes on and on. Delicious.

Valpolicella, Alpha-Zeta
Alpha Zeta was started in 1999 to produce a range of modern, fruit-driven wines from the hills outside Verona. Leading New Zealand winemaker Matt Thomson works with growers (rather than buy bulk wine, which is standard among most wines from Verona at this price) to obtain ripe grapes (by reducing yields and picking later) and then, using Matt’s expertise, preserve these flavours in the finished wines. This has resulted in wines that offer great value, quality, balance and typicity.
The Valpolicella has bright, black cherry fruit and velvety tannins; a delicious wine that is perfect with pizza and light pasta dishes.
