Niepoort Vintage Port 2019 – 6 x 75cl (wooden case)
£495.00
We are delighted to announce that Niepoort have declared their 2019 Vintage Port, and to share the details of this exceptional vintage, and our offer, with you.In the words of Dirk Niepoort..."2019 had the classic hallmarks of a great vintage; A rainy winter followed by a dry summer with rain in the last weekend of August allowing the fruit to reach full maturity whilst maintaining finesse and elegance - the perfect conditions in which the Niepoort style thrives!
This is a port with a concentrated depth of colour. The true potential and style of this wine is really displayed on the palate with wonderful integration of dark fruits, a grainy tannic structure, and pairing volume with amazing balance and elegance culminating in an impressive finish.
In conclusion, the primary fruit on the palate is appealing at this stage, but it is the balanced tannic structure which indicates great ageing potential for the future.
This is a Vintage Port with personality and, for Niepoort, richer and riper than previous vintages, but maintains the true essence of a Niepoort Vintage Port; finesse, no exuberance and an overarching balance to the wine that will continue to develop for years to come."After trying this wine, I heartily agree that this is a very special wine. What I love about Niepoort's Vintage Ports is that they are so VERY DRINKABLE; they have the depth and complexity of a fortified wine but they have a lightness of touch almost like his (amazing) table wines. I'll certainly be buying some for myself, perhaps to squirrel away for a few years, but as the wine is drinking so well already, it will be hard to resist when Christmas rolls around this year!
Buy for yourself or as a wonderful gift for future generations. This wine is available to buy now and the wine will arrive in the UK November 2019 - we will notify you when it arrives.Offer ends Monday 14th June
Tolpuddle Pinot Noir
£70.00
The Tolpuddle vineyard was purchased by Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith in 2011. It is situated in the Coal River Valley, in Tasmania’s south-east corner. First planted in 1988 by Tony Jordan and Garry Crittenden, it has since established a reputation for growing exceptional quality grapes, with the focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The cool but relatively dry climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly in autumn, without the disease pressure that heavy rainfall can bring. The vineyard took its name from the Tolpuddle Martyrs, who were transported to Australia in 1834 for starting an agrarian union in Tolpuddle in Dorset. The leader of the group, George Loveless, served part of his sentence working on a property near Richmond called GlenAyr, part of which is now the Tolpuddle Vineyard. This is certainly one of Australia's best Pinot Noirs with this vintage rated 99/100 on jamessuckling.com.
Elegant and balanced but with great complexity and depth. Stunning wine!
Perfect Pinot for a special occasion. On my list for Christmas Day this year!
Brioso, Susana Balbo
£39.95
Susana Balbo’s career in wine began in 1981 when she graduated with a degree in oenology from Don Bosco University, effectively becoming the first female winemaker in Argentina. She made her first wine – a Torrontés from Salta – in 1983 and since then hasn’t stopped! She began work on her own Dominio del Plata winery in Luján de Cuyo in 1999 and released the first vintage in 2002.Today Susana is renowned throughout the world as an exceptional talent, not only in pure wine-making terms but as a global ambassador for Argentina. In 2014 she was elected to serve a third term as President of Wines of Argentina and in May 2015 she was named Woman of the Year by The Drinks BusinessBrioso is a magnificent, muscular, unctuous 'Bordeaux blend' comprising Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Capable of long ageing and wonderfully approachable in its youth. 15 months in 100% new French oak barrels, a triumph.Very impressive. One of Argentina's very best wines.Rich and smooth, perfect with a big juicy steak, or any grilled or roast red meat dishes
Ataraxia Pinot Noir
£35.95
Ataraxia was founded by Kevin and Hanli Grant in 2004 near the coastal village of Hermanus in the Hemel-en Arde region.Hemel-en-Aarde is Afrikaans for “heaven and earth” and the claim is justified. The estate sits on a particularly heavenly stretch of land beneath a lofty peak of the Babylon’s Tower mountain range. In addition to its unrelenting beauty, Ataraxia is home to some of the most spectacular terroirs South Africa has to offer.Almost two decades on, they are associated with crafting wines of incredible finesse, balance and depth; wines that proudly hold their own on the international wine stage. This Pinot Noir is my favourite discovery of the year! Perhaps my favourite wine in our range!
The wine has the perfect balance of rich fruit and light structure alongside the most gorgeous perfume.A stunning wine, that pairs perfectly with soft, mould-ripened cheeses such as Baron Bigod.
Finca Suarez Chardonnay
£22.95
The Suarez family connection with Paraje Altamira goes way back. Juanfa Suarez' great grandfather, Leopoldo, bought the finca in 1920 and established an experimental winery for varietal micro-vinifications.
Leopoldo's son started planting in earnest in the 1960s and made good quality bulk wine for the domestic market, but the economic crisis that ensued commoditised wine in a way that made it commercially non-viable and he was forced to plant apples, pears and other fruits instead.
The finca stayed in family hands and Juanfa's father finally returned the land to vines in the 1990s, initially just to sell the grapes. Today, most of the fruit (around 80%) is sold to other producers and Juanfa uses his best plots to make his own wines. His first vintage was 2013 and in a short space of time his wines have emerged as being really rather special.
Simply one of the best Argentine Chardonnays we’ve ever tasted, this stunning, under-stated wine is verging on ethereal. The nose is fresh and delicate with notes of apple blossom, peach and mandarin and just the faintest suggestion of oak. The palate is pristine and precise, tidy and stylish. The amazing fruit quality at Juanfa’s disposal, the complete lack of malolactic fermentation and the fact that only 15% of the wine is aged in French barrels for 12 months, makes for a wine that is simultaneously lean and luscious.
A great roast chicken wine. Or Turkey. Or any number of fish dishes. Creamy sauces. Pork Chops. All would be great matches.De Loach Heritage Pinot Noir
£22.95
Established in 1973 by Cecil De Loach, a firefighter from San Francisco, De Loach was purchased by Burgundian Jean-Claude Boisset in 2003. His son Jean-Charles Boisset saw the similarities of the Russian River Valley with his native Burgundy and the potential that the region held for producing fine Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. One of his first decisions having acquired the estate was to convert the seven hectares of vineyard surrounding the winery to biodynamic farming.A Californian vineyard with a Burgundian winemaking philosophy. This Pinot Noir has mouth-watering flavours of cherry and strawberry, it is accented beautifully with just a touch of spice and earthiness.Californian Pinot Noir can be eye-wateringly expensive, so this represents outstanding value.
Great with lamb cutlets or roast pork belly.
Herdade Sao Miguel Tinto
£14.95
This is a family run winery, in the heart of Redondo, in the Alentejo region, with a deep love and understanding of the viticultural heritage of their region. Alexandre Relvas started in 1997, and his two sons Alexandre Jr and António now run the show, ably supported by Head Winemaker Nuno Franco.
Herdade São Miguel is the original, flagship estate which comprises 35 Ha of vineyard as well as Cork forest and olive groves and a heathy flock of Merino sheep.A blend that changes slightly each year, the last few vintages of this wine have been on fire. Beautifully defined dark fruit (there always seems to be a generous lick of cassis in this wine, even when the Cabernet component is actually quite modest), just a frame of toasty oak (although that roasted Alentejo character amalgamates with that too), and just enough Alicante crunch to keep it all fresh and energetic.Older vintages are still drinking well, and with the improvements in this great value wine, there's no reason more recent vintages won't last even longer.A great wine for a hearty roast or BBQ.
