Gimblett Gravels Syrah, Trinity Hill, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand – Organic
£24.50
This is a great example of Syrah from the famed Gimblett Gravels area of Hawkes Bay. The soil here is very poor (gravelly…duh) meaning the vines’ roots have to dig down deep to get their nutrients, leading to extra complexity (allegedly..). Anyway, Trinity Hill are certainly one of the best producers here and this wine is stunning; real depth and richness to the dark brambly fruit and a twist of pepper. Long and satisfying. A great match for steaks and roast meats.

Organic Macabeo, Castano, Yecla
This is a great value certified organic wine from the Castano family in South East Spain. This Macabeo (known as Viura further north in Spain and Macabeu in France) is a lovely light, fresh wine with good depth of citrus flavours. A versatile food wine with enough flavour to stand up to some spice but also delicious on it’s own!
Highmoor whole cheese
A semi-soft, washed rind cheese with brothy and bacony notes from the rind made at the Nettlebed Creamery near Henley by Rose Grimmond. Rose's family are dairy farmers and the family farm, located 1 mile down the road, provides all the beautiful organic cows' milk used to make the Nettledbed cheeses. Shape, taste and texture all make Highmoor an interesting addition to any cheese board and given the closeness of the cow to creamery to No2 this is also a great cheese to eat to reduce your food miles and support two local businesses.
Ciconia Tinto, Casa Relvas
Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Aragonez plus others.. The Alentejo region of Portugal (North of the Algarve), produces some of the county's best value wines. This is a great example from Alexandre Relvas Jr and his team at Casa Relvas. It is rich and juicy blend with a long smooth finish, that tastes much more expensive than it is. Perfect for BBQ's and a really versatile wine to have on hand, complementing pizza, meaty pasta, pork chops...
