‘Clos des Briords’ Muscadet, Domaine de la Pepiere
£16.95
At Domaine de la Pepiere, Marc Ollivier makes the most amazing Muscadet. Maybe you thought Muscadet couldn’t be amazing? Well, this is light years away from the dilute, boring wines of yesteryear.
Clos des Briord is an organically harvested single vineyard of old vines (original, not high-yielding clonal selections like many in the region), the grapes are harvested by hand and the wines are fermented with natural yeast with the very minimal use of SO2. The wine is aged ‘sur lie’ for an extended period of time.
All these elements combine to produce a Muscadet of rare quality; it has such purity of flavour and laser-like precision. It is clean and fresh but as it opens up in the glass, layers of flavour unfurl; a truly delicious wine that is so refreshing and drinkable. A ‘Real Wine’ in the truest sense: one made by hand by a passionate and talented winemaker who really lets the vineyard express itself.
Enjoy with grilled prawns, scallops, seafood salads or it’s perfect with oysters.

Organic Macabeo, Castano, Yecla
This is a great value certified organic wine from the Castano family in South East Spain. This Macabeo (known as Viura further north in Spain and Macabeu in France) is a lovely light, fresh wine with good depth of citrus flavours. A versatile food wine with enough flavour to stand up to some spice but also delicious on it’s own!
